Gourmet Bread Mixes
My
gourmet bread mixes that are for bread machine or oven baking
are also for sale here. One repeat customer told me that
she had never liked a bread mix until she tried mine! She
is partial to Mary's Place Light Rye.
On the weekends, I bake one variety so that you can sample
what a great taste can come out of a little paper bag. For
total indulgence, after placing the dough in the bread pan,
brush it with melted butter. Brush it again when it first
comes out of the oven. These mixes come beautifully packaged
in colorful, designer, paper bags and are tied with ribbon.
They are a special treat that makes a lovely gift anytime.
My goal is to provide a quality product that you and your
family will enjoy. By the way, they make supurb bread sticks
too!
So many customers enjoy our tea
parties and want to take the baked breads home. So now,
on Saturdays and Sundays only, I offer four loaves for sale,
first come - first served! Freshly baked loaves of our Gourmet
Breads are $7.00-$8.00, depending on the variety. Yummy
!!
Dreamy Cherry Chocolate - *Special Order
This is a lush, rich, moist bread that is right at home
on any special morning brunch table. One of my favorite
pairings with this is chicken salad. Strawberry cream cheese
is excellent also. Making toast turns breakfast into a finger
licking event because the chocolate gets soft in the toaster
- oh well - yummy!
Contents of mix: White bread flour, wheat bread flour,
dry milk, salt, chocolate, dried cherries, dried orange
zest, yeast and instruction sheet. You will need: Water,
molasses, Triple Sec Liqueur or orange juice. Makes a 2
pound loaf. Price: $5.95
Garlic Bread of the North Woods
Good grief it's garlic! There is a unique garlic and herb
blend that creates heaven for a garlic lover. The wonderful
light texture and the addition of fresh Parmesan cheese
puts this bread over the top on the taste scale. Serve it
while warm with you favorite pasta dish. I like to add 1
or 2 extra cloves of fresh garlic minced. A really good
variation is to roast the garlic ahead of time and knead
the soft cloves into the dough. To roast the garlic: remove
the loose outer covering from a head of garlic. Trim off
the tips of each clove. Place the garlic on tin foil and
drizzle with olive oil. Bring the foil up and around the
garlic but do not seal it tight. Place in a 400 degree oven
for 30-40 minutes or until soft. Put however much you like
in the bread and throw the rest in the pasta! Brush melted
butter over finished loaf and sprinkle with more Parmesan
cheese.
Contents of mix: White bread flour, salt, seasonings, yeast
and instruction sheet. You will need: Water, butter, Parmesan
cheese. The extra garlic is up to you. Makes a 2 pound loaf.
Price: $4.95
North Woods Caraway Rye -*Special Order
This dark, lush, pumpernickel bread is royally rich and
just bursting with flavor. Add a slice of good Danish cheese
and maybe a slab of Black Forest ham for a absolutely glorious
combination of international flavors. It would make a great
reuben or grilled cheese sandwich. The mix produces a smaller,
denser loaf which is traditionally pumpenickel.
Contents of mix: White bread flour, wheat bread flour,
rye flour, corn meal, dry milk, wheat gluten, salt, brown
sugar, caraway seeds, spices, yeast and instruction sheet.
You will need: water, butter, molasses. Makes a 1 1/2 pound
loaf. Price: $5.95
North Woods Morning Apricot
Plump, juicy, golden raisins and wonderful amber pieces
of dried apricots meld with cinnamon and spices to become
a true morning treasure. My favorite variation is to add
1/2 pecans to the dough mixture. The flavor is incredible
fresh out of the oven, but be sure to save some for toasting
- what a treat! Let the butter melt in and/or drizzle on
a little honey. It doesn't get any better than this.
Contents of mix: White bread flour, salt, seasonings, dried
apricots, golden raisins, yeast and instruction sheet. Makes
a 2 pound loaf. You will need: Water, butter. Price: $5.95

this bread will almost stand up and slice itself. Your taste

North Woods Cinnamon Sunrise
This is a heavier textured cinnamon-raisin bread with great

a variation, I like to add walnuts. Great toast and even
greater French toast come from this bread.

Deer Cove English Muffin Loaf
This is the only mix that is not breadmachine compatible.
It's too easy! We need to thank Ellen, a north woods neighbor,
for the inspiration for this mix. This is a home-made fresh
English muffin in a loaf pan with a dense texture (even
has holes in it like an English muffin) and a chewy crust
that is sprinkled with corn meal. It stirs up fast in a
bowl and has only one rise time. There is no kneading. While
being wonderful warm from the oven, it really shines when
toasted and topped with butter and jam!
Contents of mix: White bread flour, salt, seasonings,
cornmeal for sprinkling, yeast and instructrion sheet. You
will need: water. Makes one 8" x 4" loaf. Price:
$4.95
Mary's
Place Light Rye
This is a very versatile bread. Even people who say they
don't like rye bread, like this light rye. There is just
a hint of caraway in this lovely, light textured bread that
just begs for a slice of cheese and a bowl of soup. It is
a wonderful sandwich bread. Variations might include the
addition of fresh or dried dill weed, or even dried onion
flakes.
Contents of mix: White bread flour, salt, seasonings, yeast
and instruction sheet. You will need: Water, butter. Makes
a 2 pound loaf. Price: $4.95
Mountain Herb Garden
This is my Mom's favorite. The bread produced from this
mix has amazing aroma, light texture and great taste. I'll
warn you now that you can't stop with just one slice. The
flavor of garden herbs make a bread so good that you don't
even need butter. Great for sandwiches and to use for turkey
stuffing.
Contents of mix: White bread flour, salt, seasonings, yeast
and instruction sheet. You will need: water, butter. Makes
a 2 pound loaf. Price: $4.95
North Woods Potato
Another good name would be White Velvet. The velvety texture
and rich flavor of this bread makes awesome sandwiches and
tantaliziang toast. To really tweak the taste buds, sprinkle
some real bacon bits or a pinch of finely chopped rosemary
into the flour mixture. WOW!
Contents of mix: Whtie bread flour, salt, dried potatoes,
yeast and instruction sheet. You will need: Water, sour
cream. Makes a 2 pound loaf. Price: $4.95
Mountain Man Black Pepper & Onion
The wonderfully fragrant aroma of baking bread with onions
can't be beat. The addition of cracked black pepper gives
the bread a little "snap" and will definitely
please the mountain man in your family. This mix produces
a beautiful crusty loaf with a fine texture. Bread sticks
are terrific and it also makes a great stuffing for turkey
or pork chops.
Contents of mix: White bread flour, salt, seasonings, black
pepper, brown sugar, yeast, instruction sheet. You will
need: Water, butter. Makes a 2 pound loaf. Price: $5.95
Lodge Breakfast Honey-Oatmeal
There's no better way to eat oatmeal. While being a terrific
breakfast bread for toasting (I drizzle mine with honey),
this light textured bread with a nutty-oat taste gives a
whole new meaning to a meatloaf sandwich. This is a beautiful
loaf to be enjoyed anytime.
Contents of mix: White bread flour, salt, oats, yeast and
instruction sheet. You will need: Water, butter, honey.
Makes a 2 pound loaf. Price: 4.95
Forrest's Wheat -*Special Order
The developement of this bread mix was due to the request
of a north woods neighbor, Forrest. What I came up with
is a hearty wheat bread with a twist. The oats and the addition
of an egg create a wonderfully rich and creamy flavor. A
sandwich never had it so good. This is a light textured
bread with a great crust.
Contents of mix: White bread flour, whole wheat bread flour,
salt, dehydrated buttermilk, baking soda, oats, seasonings,
yeast and instruction sheet. Makes a 2 pound loaf. You will
need: Water, egg, honey. Price: $4.95.
North Woods Style Granola
This is a heavier, denser bread with a chewy texture and
a great brown crust. Granola, honey and almonds create an
elusive, nutty sweetness that makes this bread a standout.
It toasts beautifully and is a great snacking bread with
cheese. I like it with raspberry cream cheese.
Contents of mix: White bread flour, salt, seasonings, almond
granola, yeast and instruction sheet. You will need: Water,
vegetable oil, honey. Makes a 2 pound loaf. Price: $4.95
